How Black Gold's tape sheet works

Black Gold sliders ship with a sheet of pre-printed tapes that spans the usual range of arrow speeds, and a factory calculator that picks one from a two-distance sight-in: 20 and 60 yards, or 20 and 40 for slower setups.

The sheet is a series of fixed steps. A setup that lands between two steps gets the nearer one, and the pick rests on two readings, so a small measuring error at the far mark can move you to the neighbouring tape.

What this calculator does instead

It fits a trajectory through your marks, two at minimum and three for a quadratic fit, and prints that exact curve at 1:1 scale. The 20 and 60 readings you already took for the factory calculator go straight in: distance, and travel in inches from the 20 yard zero.

The tape label is preset to "Black Gold". The width defaults to 0.7 in and can be changed in the customization panel to match your slot.

Sighting in a Black Gold for a custom tape

If 60 yards is beyond your confident range, use 20 and 40 first and add 60 later.

  1. Set the housing at its top reference and zero at 20 yards. That is travel 0.
  2. Sight in at 60 yards, or at 40 if that is your limit today, and measure the travel from the 20 mark in inches.
  3. Add the middle mark. Three marks let the tool fit a curve instead of a line, and flag a mark that does not belong.
  4. Enter the marks, print, and verify the 1 in ruler before cutting.

Printing and fitting the tape

Print at 100% and verify the ruler. Trim to the slot, apply from the 20 yard end, and confirm at 40. If you hunt at an altitude far from where you calibrated, enter that elevation and temperature; they only affect the tape beyond your last mark. Re-calibrate after a string, draw weight, or arrow change.

FAQ

Can I still use the Black Gold sheet?
Yes, and it is a useful check. Print the custom tape, lay it beside the sheet tape the factory calculator chose, and see where they diverge. Then shoot 40 yards and keep whichever is right there.
My 20, 40 and 60 marks do not fit a smooth curve.
The tool flags this. The usual cause is one badly shot mark. Re-shoot the odd one out before trusting the tape, and confirm the bow is grouping cleanly at that distance first.
Does elevation change the tape?
It shifts the far end. Enter the elevation and temperature you hunt at; the tool uses them for the trajectory beyond your last mark. Within your calibrated distances, your marks win.
